FGPC is delighted to provide dragon boat paddlers with a virtual opportunity to participate in a safe, distanced "championship" event over the 2020 August 7-9 weekend. Any dragon boat team (minimum 10 participants) can enrol in FGPC's Virtual Dragon Boat Festival.
For a donation to cover technological fees and medal packaging and shipping costs, teams can participate by posting pre-determined "distanced" activities and challenges, then submit them through their team captains during race weekend. Advance hint: extra points are available for creativity! Results will be tabulated, animated and displayed in real time over the Virtual Dragon Boat Festival Weekend (7-9 August) and winners will be displayed and broadcast on the evening of Sunday 9 August, right around the standard time of our traditional medal ceremonies! The top 15 teams with the highest weekend scores will win commemorative medals, and the following 15 teams will receive commemorative lapel pins. We’ll provide registered teams with the challenge details at noon (Pacific time) on Friday August 7, for completion before noon on Sunday August 9. Leading up to the Friday August 7 virtual “start line,” we’ll send teams hints to prepare some of their distanced activities in advance, so don’t you worry: you’ll have the opportunity to develop winning strategies well in advance!
In recognition of the dragon boat community’s traditional support for our charity of choice over the August race weekend, extra points will be awarded to teams who participate in our annual pledge drive for BC Cancer. We’ll provide teams with pledge drive access before the race weekend start date.
The virtual festival entry donation is $100 for 10-person crews ($10 per person) or $150 for 20-person crews ($7.50 per person) to cover off the event’s technological costs as well as costs to ship medals to winning participants. Winners will receive commemorative 2020 gold, silver and bronze medals or corresponding lapel pins.
Register and submit your donation and we'll work with you and your team to get your roster set up and provide all the details and hints for preparation over the weeks ahead...in time for an exciting weekend from 7-9 August!
