This second session in FGPC's summer 2025 "steering series" will guide beginner, novice and newer participants through a hands-on low-stress practical steering session. This on-water session will provide each participant with an understanding of and experience with the fundamental steering strokes and how they make the boat behave. The class size is limited to 11 to provide for adequate time for each paddler to master each required stroke technique and to implement the steering strokes in a crew. The session will be conducted in V12 canoes to prevent capsizing. All 11 participants will learn steering technique from each seat, along with actual steering experience in a boat while underway. Participants will also learn how to steer on both sides of the canoe, as well as on the left (ama-side) only.
