Ready to challenge yourself? Between 15 July and 31 August, you can log successive 5km FGPC time trial results and win accolades, honours, extravagant prizes and confidence in yourself as an OC1 sprint paddler based on your age, gender and years of experience. All FGPC EAP members (both club boat and private boat EAP members) are eligible to register in exchange for a donation to support our small boat fleet.
Once you've registered, you'll be given access to the data-submission window. You can then start uploading your results from the established 5KM loop. Upload as frequently as you wish. We will use your data to determine prizing on or after 31 August based on fastest times in each age class and gender, as well as the most improved (based on multiple logged times), the most frequently logged (e.g. the most kilometers posted), and the most efficient lines (based on tide profiles at the time of the recorded time trial). NOTE: for "fastest" times in each age and gender class, FGPC will average your top three submitted results posted between 15 July and 31 August, and draw from your aggregate data to award placements and prizing based on division, gender and age placements.
The course: the 5km circuit begins at the concrete hazard marker located at the east side of the Two Sisters rocks located on the opposite side of the Gorge from FGPC. Line your OC1 bow pointing south to Bay Bridge, starting at the marker, then loop around the two stanchions of Bay Bridge (west to east), then head north past the start line, west of the red marker V24, then under the Selkirk Trestle before heading due north to an FGPC buoy located at the north end of the Gorge; do an ama-side turn around the north orange FGPC buoy then return on the same line around Bay Bridge before finishing at orange "finish line" buoy adjacent to our north paddling dock. You'll need to submit a "screen shot" of your GPS tracks with your posted results. You can run the time trial circuit as often as you wish (a minimum of three is required before 31 August).
Thank you for contributing your registration fee for this event. This fee is a donation to FGPC's small boat fund, and will help to pay for the new Hurricane OC1s the club has purchased in order to expand relevant services to our members. Thank you for your support as we adapt our equipment and services to support the paddling community.
PADDLES UP!
